Honolulu Fire Department

The Honolulu Fire Department held a ground breaking ceremony for their first regional fire station – the East Kapolei Fire Station – on July 19th. The fire station will be located in Kapolei across the street from the headquarters of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands and will house an engine company and ladder company with a total of 30 personnel.

They were celebrating the acquisition and protection of the Honouliuli Forest Reserve on June 2, 2010in the Kunia foothills of the eastern slope of the Waianae Mountain Range.

The Kapolei Judiciary Complex opened its doors to eager West O’ahu residents in March, but until the traditional Hawaiian blessing and dedication on May 28, 2010, it had not yet come to full life.

At the blessing ceremony, Senate President Colleen Hanabusa and her colleagues Senators Mike Gabbard, Brian Taniguchi, and Norman Sakamoto presented an Honorary Certificate to Chief Justice Ronald T.Y. Moon, who spearheaded the efforts for the complex over 2 decades ago.

Barbers Point Bowling Center is officially open for business! And the lanes are open for both military and civilian use daily from 9am – 11pm, and until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

United States Tennis Association's Hawaii Pacific Hall of Fame

Senator Gabbard presented surprise Honorary Certificates from the Hawaii State Senate to the most recent inductees of the United States Tennis Association's Hawaii Pacific Hall of Fame. The event took place at the Ala Moana Hotel on October 4th, 2008.

(Top) Rick Fried, a well-known attorney, was chosen for his outstanding performance on the tennis courts: winning four Kailua Racquet Club Night Doubles titles, being ranked among the top 10 in open singles, and being #1 in his age group every year he has been eligible.

(Bottom) Bob Keaunui was inducted for his efforts in volunteering for over 30 years to help youth and adult beginners on the Windward side of Oahu to learn to love the game.

Sharon Har celebrated with Kapolei High School's Woodshop instructor Brian Ichida at a groundbreaking ceremony and blessing for the construction of two new portable classrooms on September 5th, 2008. This is a first-of-its-kind full-scale construction project built entirely by Woodshop students.
